Setting Up Your Bedroom

Choose the bed first

The bed sets the scale for everything else in the room. Aim to leave about 60 cm of walking space on each side and at the foot so the room doesn’t feel cramped. A queen bed suits most main bedrooms, while a king needs a larger room. Storage and gas lift beds are worth considering if you’re short on cupboard space.

Bedside tables and drawers

Bedside tables look best when the top sits close to the height of your mattress, so a lamp, phone and book are easy to reach. A chest of drawers or tallboy adds clothes storage. Tallboys take up less floor space if the room is narrow.

Wardrobes and finishing touches

Check the ceiling height and door swing before choosing a freestanding wardrobe. Once the furniture is in, bedside lamps, a rug and a fresh coverlet finish the room.
