How to Find the Perfect Rug for Your Space: A Comprehensive Guide

Choosing the right rug for your space is more than just about aesthetics; it's about creating a warm and inviting environment. A rug can transform a cold, sterile room into a cozy haven. In this guide, we'll delve deeper into the art of selecting the perfect rug.

Choosing the right rug for your space is more than just about aesthetics; it's about creating a warm and inviting environment. A rug can transform a cold, sterile room into a cozy haven. In this guide, we'll delve deeper into the art of selecting the perfect rug.

How Do I Know What Rug to Choose?

  1. Measure Your Space: Start by measuring the area where you intend to place the rug. A common rule of thumb is to leave at least 45 centimetres of bare floor around the rug. This ensures that the rug complements rather than overwhelms the space.
  2. Consider the Room's Function: Different rooms have different needs. High-traffic areas like hallways and living rooms might require durable, stain-resistant rugs. Our wool rugs are not only luxurious but also durable, making it perfect for such spaces.
  3. Maintenance Matters: Some rugs require more care than others. If you're a busy bee looking for low maintenance, consider rugs made of synthetic fibres. They're easier to clean and often more affordable.

What Rug Will Suit My Room?

  1. Living Room: This is where you entertain guests, relax after a long day, or play with your kids. A larger rug that fits under all the main furniture, like the Botanic Native Rug 240x150cm, can unify the space and make it feel more intimate.
  2. Dining Room: Here, the rug should extend at least 60 centimetres beyond the table on all sides. This ensures chairs remain on the rug even when pulled out. Our wool rugs are a versatile choice that complements most dining sets.
  3. Bedroom: A bedroom is a personal sanctuary. A rug that extends 45-60 centimetres beyond each side of the bed offers a soft landing for your feet every morning. Explore our wool rug range for something soft underfoot.
  4. Hallways and Entryways: These areas welcome you and your guests. A runner, such as the Amara Runner 80x287cm, is both stylish and functional.

What Are the Qualities of a Good Rug?

  1. Material Quality: The material determines the rug's feel, durability, and price. Natural fibres like wool are soft and durable but can be pricier. Synthetic rugs are affordable and easy to clean.
  2. Density and Pile: A dense rug means more fibres per square metre, which usually indicates better quality. The pile refers to the rug's height; choose based on your preference and room's function.
  3. Construction: The way a rug is constructed affects its durability and look. Hand-knotted rugs are often of superior quality but come with a higher price tag. Machine-made rugs are more affordable and can still offer good quality.

Should a Rug Be Dark or Light?

The colour of your rug can influence the mood of the room. Dark rugs add warmth and cosiness, making spaces feel intimate. They're also better at hiding stains. Light rugs, on the other hand, can make a room feel more spacious and airy. However, they might show stains more easily. Always consider the room's existing colour palette and the amount of traffic it receives.

A rug is more than just a decorative piece. It's a comfort element, a statement of style, and a reflection of your personality. When chosen correctly, it can transform any space, making it warmer and more inviting. Remember, a good rug doesn't just warm your feet; it warms your entire space.
